the imagination layer

mar 2026

As intelligence becomes more available, imagination becomes more valuable. Execution used to be the scarce layer. AI changes that. More writing, coding, designing, analysing, and organising can now be produced on demand.

But imagination is different. Imagination is not output, speed, or the ability to generate more options. Imagination is the ability to see what is not yet there.

And that is scary. Because once you internalize this, you realize the limitation is no longer the tool. It is you. If intelligence can help make almost anything, then your imagination becomes the boundary: what you can picture, what you can ask for, what you can believe is possible.

That realization is uncomfortable. You suddenly see that you may not be as imaginative as you thought you were. So the work changes. You have to search for ways to imagine bigger, better, and more often. You have to expose yourself to stranger ideas, wider worlds, deeper questions, and people who stretch what feels possible.

Intelligence can extend a thought. Imagination decides how far it can go.
